I need
to look at the legal constraints of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
They are a self – regulatory organization of the advertising industry within
the UK. Due to them being a non – statutory organization, which means they
cannot interpret or enforce legislation. Its code of advertising practice
broadly reflects legislation in many instances. The British government does not
fund them but they do by a levy on the advertising industry. The role of the
ASA is to regulate the content of advertisement, sales promotions and direct
marketing within the UK. They do this by investigating complaints made
about any ads, sales promotions or direct marketing and decide whether such
advertising complies with the advertising standards codes. I need to
take into consideration the water shed, so language, types of scenes such as
nudity and violence, alcohol. This is just some of the many codes of the ASA.
